This term, our Food Technology students had the opportunity to work with a fantastic donation of wild Atlantic salmon, helping them develop a range of practical cookery skills while creating delicious dishes.
Our Year 8 students used the donated salmon to make homemade salmon fishcakes, experimenting with a variety of flavours including fresh herbs, lemon zest and chilli. The lesson encouraged students to develop their confidence with seasoning and balancing flavours while learning how to prepare and cook fish.
Meanwhile, our Year 10 students took on a more advanced challenge, preparing fresh salmon and dill ravioli served with a dill butter sauce. This practical lesson allowed students to refine their pasta-making techniques and develop the higher-level skills they will need as they prepare for their GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition practical examination next year.
Experiences like these give our students the opportunity to work with high-quality ingredients and broaden their understanding of sustainable seafood, nutrition and food preparation techniques.
A huge thank you to Alaska Seafood, Fish Heroes, Food Teachers Centre UK, The Fishmongers’ Company, and DFDS for their generous donation of wild Atlantic salmon. Their support enables our students to enjoy valuable hands-on learning experiences that inspire confidence and creativity in the kitchen.
