Year 10 GCSE Music students, along with a selected group of Year 9 pupils, recently had the opportunity to attend an inspiring talk and Q&A session with acclaimed musician Mark Simpson. Mark is currently Artist in Residence and Composer in Residence with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, making the visit a valuable and exciting experience for our students.
During the session, Mark spoke about his musical background and journey into professional composition and performance. He shared where he finds inspiration when composing, explaining how a wide range of musical styles and influences shape his work. Students gained insight into the creative process behind composing music and what it is like to work as a professional musician.
The Q&A gave students the chance to ask thoughtful questions about composition, musical influences, and career pathways in music. The session was engaging, informative, and highly motivating, providing real-world context to their classroom learning.
Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity that students thoroughly enjoyed and found extremely beneficial to their musical studies.
