Continuing our partnership with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, our Dance students enjoyed an inspiring two day cultural trip to Birmingham last week, taking in world-class ballet, exploring behind the scenes of a major theatre and even stepping into the studio themselves.
The visit began with an evening performance of the Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Nutcracker, a breathtaking production that brought Tchaikovsky’s music and the enchanting Christmas story to life. For many students, it was their first time experiencing a full-length ballet, and the combination of live orchestra, stunning choreography and festive staging made it an unforgettable night.
The following day, students returned to the Birmingham Hippodrome for an exclusive backstage tour. They explored areas rarely seen by audiences, including the costume department, makeup spaces and dressing rooms. Seeing the detail, craftsmanship and preparation that go into every performance gave students a new appreciation for the artistry and hard work behind a professional production.
A highlight of the morning was watching the Birmingham Royal Ballet professional class. Observing dancers train at the highest level was truly inspiring an insight into the discipline, precision and dedication required in the world of ballet.
The experience didn’t end there. Students were then invited to take part in their own practical session led by Jenny, accompanied by Andrew on the piano. Their energy and encouragement created a warm, engaging atmosphere and our students threw themselves into the class with enthusiasm.
The two day trip was a fantastic opportunity for our students to deepen their understanding of the performing arts, witness excellence up close and gain confidence through hands-on experience. A memorable adventure for all involved.
