Music students from Dowdales School recently took part in the Cumbria Community Orchestra Collective workshops held at the Derwent Pencil Museum, joining hundreds of young musicians from across the county in a celebration of collaborative music-making.
The workshops, organised through the Cumbria Music Hub in partnership with the Cumbria Community Orchestra Collective and RNC Music, are designed to enhance musical skills while bringing people together through performance and shared musical experiences.
On 24 March 2026, ten Dowdales students attended a half-day workshop, performing alongside around 180 musicians in a large-scale orchestra setting. A second workshop followed on 15 April 2026, where four Dowdales students joined an even larger ensemble of approximately 300 players.
Throughout the sessions, students participated in sectional rehearsals, working closely with musicians in their own instrument groups to develop technique, confidence and ensemble skills. The day then culminated in full ensemble rehearsals, where all participants came together to perform as one orchestra.
The experience provided students with the opportunity to collaborate with fellow young musicians from across Cumbria, while developing their performance skills in an inspiring and supportive environment.
