What a fantastic day our Year 7s have had at Beamish! Plenty of steps taken, plenty of history explored, and plenty of fun had by all.
Beamish is an incredible open-air museum that brings history to life, showing us what life was like in the 1820s, 1900s, and 1940s. Today, we stepped back in time to learn all about coal mining, experiencing the tough conditions underground and discovering how vital mining was to local communities.
One of the highlights was our lively debate about whether children, girls, and women should have worked in the mines—some strong opinions were shared!
We also got to see the 1900s town, complete with a sweet shop, school, and old-fashioned trams, and explored the pit village where miners and their families lived. It was a brilliant hands-on way to understand history!
A big well done to all our students for engaging so well. We can’t wait for the next adventure!
