Our Untrodden Ways poetry group had a truly inspiring trip to Dove Cottage in Grasmere on a stunning winter’s day this week.
Students were given a private tour of Wordsworth’s beloved home, stepping into the very rooms where he penned some of his greatest works. Guided by Cumbrian poet Katie Hale, they then crafted their own poetry, drawing inspiration from the breathtaking landscape and historic surroundings.
There was even time to explore the Wordsworth Museum, delving deeper into the life and legacy of one of England’s greatest poets. William Wordsworth, a key figure of the Romantic movement, wrote much of his famous poetry in Dove Cottage, where he lived from 1799 to 1808 with his sister Dorothy Wordsworth. His most famous works include I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud (inspired by the daffodils of Ullswater) and Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey.
Wordsworth’s deep love for nature and the Lake District shaped his poetry, and his belief in the power of ordinary experiences to inspire was truly felt by our students during their visit.
A grand day out for our budding poets—who knows, perhaps the next Wordsworth is among them!
