Team Dowdales

Team is key to everything we do at Dowdales. We work together as one – looking out for and after each other. We believe that it is the way you behave when no one is looking that counts. We are up-standers; we are Team Dowdales.

Each year group has a team ethos as they work together and support each other in and outside of classrooms; we celebrate each other’s achievements together.

Each year group team is part of the whole team (staff and students together) where we are ambitious for all. Year groups come together through many enrichment activities and here they work as an ensemble; firmly living the maxim – “You never really understand a person until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” (‘To Kill a Mockingbird’).

The Senior Team

The Senior Team is focused on the core purpose ‘to provide students with a world class education and be the best we can be in all we do’.

Leadership at Dowdales was judged Outstanding by Ofsted November 2013. The Headteacher, SLT and Governors “Outstanding leadership is based on extremely high aspirations for all students.” Ofsted Nov 13

The Pastoral Team

The Pastoral team is everyone – each teacher, form teacher and our pastoral and academic leaders. Everyone has a responsibility to safeguard and care for the students that they teach. The welfare of our students is vital. We want them to find school a happy place to be with confident students. We know that when this is right, the rest follows.

Students are placed in form groups in Year 7 after careful consideration and after speaking with students, parents and primary colleagues. These form groups are completely mixed and here they make friends for life. They remain in these forms for the five years they are with us in school and come together each morning to start the day before they split into their separate classes.

The Academic Team

The staff work in department teams to ensure that their curriculum is ambitious and inclusive. They work together to ensure that all achieve and progress in and outside of the classroom. They offer opportunities that enrich the lives of the students that they teach so that they can follow their passions and grow into whomever they wish to be.

Our school governors are from different parts of the Furness area and consist of parents, carers, staff, local authority and the community. They are a voluntary group who strive to enable Dowdales to be the best it can be and want the students to develop to their best potential and grow into successful, caring people.

Friends of Dowdales

Our Parent and Teacher Association is known as Friends of Dowdales.

The Friends are a group of volunteers who strive to bring together the Dowdales Community; parents, teachers, friends of the school and the local community to raise funds to help support the school.

Every year they organise fundraising events helping to raise money for essential equipment and student awards.

If you would like to be involved with the group or help at fundraising events please contact Mr Brown, Chairperson on 01229 469800 or email click here
