Ross Casson’s superb poem ‘March to the Sea’ drew much praise in this year’s Rydal Mount Wordsworth Poetry Prize, winning the senior schools category at an awards ceremony on Thursday April 14th.

The poetry competition, open to all schools across Cumbria, drew stiff competition and Ross was thrilled to be invited to the awards ceremony at Rydal Mount, Wordsworth’s home for most of his life. The poet’s great-great-great-great-grandson, Christopher Wordsworth, helped to judge the entries, and was there to present the awards.

Ross, who is in Year 11, said: “I can’t believe they thought so much of my poem, and to meet one of Wordsworth’s actual relatives was just amazing. This has really inspired me to continue writing poetry.”
