Religious Studies

At Dowdales we place a large emphasis on respect and understanding, which is emulated in the Religious Studies department.

We aim to provide a broad and balanced thematic curriculum, in line with the Cumbria Agreed Syllabus, which is exciting, engaging and enriching. Religious attitudes and beliefs are studied and debated at high levels, helping students to gain an insight and understanding of faiths, morals and cultures in the 21st century. Students are encouraged to be independent learners and to have an enquiring mind in order to question and develop their own spirituality and beliefs.

We are delighted to be the first secondary school in Cumbria to receive the RE Quality Mark Gold Award which recognises the diverse and challenging curriculum the school offers with students showing a love of learning and deep engagement with religious, philosophical and moral issues.
