Mentoring

“Mentoring is about making high expectations a reality for each student.  To achieve this, there must be somebody who knows, motivates, supports and encourages every child to reflect, challenge and deepen their learning.”

Our philosophy is that every child in school is entitled to a Mentor, a member of staff who, through a learning conversation, will support and challenge them and help them to achieve their potential.  Form Teachers are utilised to undertake this role with additional support from a member of staff who acts as a ‘Progress Mentor’.

Each Progress mentor is assigned to a specific form group so that both they and the form teacher are able to have regular contact with students via morning and afternoon registration periods.

Form teachers and progress mentors are provided with regular updates of attainment data to facilitate conversations with students about their learning.  Through this contact mutually agreed targets are set in order to move students closer towards their personal targets.
