Key Stage 4

Year 10 Curriculum

In Year 10 students begin by studying the natural environments of Coastal landscapes and River and Tectonic Landscapes. They go on to learn about our sustainable and unsustainable energy usage in A Wasteful World.

At the end of Year 10 the students will begin Unit 4: Investigating Geography which is their Controlled Assessment Task on tourism.  This will involve a day field trip to Grasmere for data collection and the write up of their enquiry. The Controlled Assessment task allows students to develop their independent geographical enquiry skills.

Landscapes of the UK - Two distinctive landscapes in the UK (Rivers & Coasts)
People of the UK- Uneven development in the UK - Ways of life in a UK city
UK environmental challenges - UK climate and flood event - Energy in the UK

The World Around Us (02)
Ecosystems of the Planet - Ecosystems (Tropical Rainforests and Coral Reefs)
People of the Planet - Uneven development - Ways of life in an LIDC or EDC city
Environmental threats to our Planet – Climate Change – Extreme weather conditions (focus on drought)

Year 11 Curriculum

In Year 11 students will complete their study of the human environment. They will also look at the issues surrounding climate change in Challenges for the Planet. Finally they re-cap and practise their skills in the Geographical Skills section
